Cleaning SLA prints with TPM

Cleaning SLA prints with TPM

To clean SLA prints from a Formlabs printer, isopropanol (IPA) is not always optimal in certain environments. In that case, TPM might be a good alternative.

Tripropylene glycol monomethyl ether (TPM) is a non-flammable*, low odor solvent that can be used to clean and dissolve uncured resin on stereolithography (SLA) 3D printed parts. TPM has a lower evaporation rate than IPA and washes about three times as many parts as IPA before needing to be replaced.

TPM is somewhat more expensive than isopropanol, and requires the printed part to be rinsed a second time with water after cleaning with TPM. It can be used for all Formlabs resins, except their biocompatible resins.

Formlabs generally recommends using isopropyl alcohol (IPA) with a concentration of at least 90% to wash parts. If you are unable to use IPA, TPM is a tested alternative.

TPM is compatible with the Formlabs Finish Kit, Form Wash, and Form Cure. Would you like to know whether TPM is a valid alternative for your business? We'd like to help you with this, contact us for more information.
